Chefchaouen, the blue city: travel guide and private tours

Blue streets, the Rif mountains and a relaxed atmosphere. What to see in Chefchaouen and how to include it in your Morocco trip.

The blue pearl of the Rif

Chefchaouen is a mountain town in northern Morocco famous for its blue-painted houses. It is calm, photogenic and perfect for wandering slowly among stairways, fountains and small squares.

What to see in Chefchaouen

  • The blue medina and its most photographed corners.
  • Uta el-Hammam square and the Kasbah with its garden.
  • Ras el-Ma, the spring where women still wash clothes.
  • Spanish Mosque, with the best view of the town at sunset.
  • Local crafts: wool blankets, weaving and goat’s cheese.

How to get there

Chefchaouen is about 2 hours from Tangier and about 3–4 hours from Fez, so it fits perfectly into tours starting in Tangier or Casablanca and continuing to Fez and the desert. We recommend staying at least one night to enjoy it once the day-trippers leave.
